Green Refuge
I went on a walk today
The world felt heavy around me
I sought refuge under branches of green
Felt the familiar breeze against my face
A respite against the tempest
The headlines and doom sayers
On every street corner
Filling the world with malice and corruption
Where to turn to find a moment of peace
There is refuge away from stone buildings
Gone from the urban jungles
Exhaust choking our air
Polluting more than just our waterways
Where can the soul find peace once more
There in the tall reaches of the stone spires
The forests of natural sounds of old
Grow my friends, tall and mighty
And I will take refuge in your shady embrace
Call me home
Away from the noise
The ever growing cacophony of malice
Stinging my ears, scorning my heart
I ask where is the world I once knew?
I went on a walk today to find it
And I did
Nestled among the quiet watchers
Planted here long before me
Through trials they have endured
From their examples,
So shall I also learn their secret
I too
Will find peace

There’s a beautiful flow and depth to this… I could really feel that search for peace and where it lands. Not easy to put into words, but it comes through. Really enjoyed reading this.
